Kören Perespiv grundades under Association of Ukrainians in Finland med målet att bevara och vårda den ukrainska sångtraditionen bland ukrainare som bor i Finland. Genom musiken erbjuder kören ett meningsfullt sätt att upprätthålla kontakten till sitt kulturarv samt att bygga nya vänskapsband och nätverk i det nya hemlandet.
Sedan starten har kören samlat människor i olika åldrar och med olika bakgrund som förenas av kärleken till ukrainsk musik och traditioner. Repertoaren består av traditionella folkvisor, sakral musik och modern ukrainsk körmusik, vilket speglar rikedom och mångfald i Ukrainas musikaliska arv.
Kören leddes initialt av kördirigenten Uliana Burdina, vars engagemang var avgörande för att etablera kören och utveckla dess konstnärliga grund. Sedan 2025 leds kören av Volodymyr Andrushchak, ukrainsk operasångare och kördirigent. Under hans konstnärliga ledning fortsätter kören att växa, med högkvalitativa musikframträdanden och ett starkare ukrainskt gemenskap i Finland.
Utöver repetitioner och konserter fungerar Perespiv-kören som en viktig kulturell och social mötesplats. Den ger ukrainare i Finland möjlighet att samlas, stötta varandra och fira sitt gemensamma kulturarv. Samtidigt introducerar kören ukrainsk kultur för finsk och internationell publik och främjar förståelse och kulturellt utbyte genom musik.
För många deltagare är gemensam sång mer än en hobby – det är en källa till hopp, motståndskraft och tillhörighet. Särskilt under Ukrainas svåra tider hjälper kören till att bevara kulturella traditioner och upprätthålla en levande kontakt till hemmet genom musikens universella språk.

The Perespiv Choir was founded under the auspices of the Association of Ukrainians in Finland (Ukrainians.fi) with the mission of preserving and nurturing Ukrainian song culture among Ukrainians living in Finland. Through music, the choir provides a meaningful way for community members to maintain a connection to their cultural heritage while building new friendships and networks in their new home country.
Since its establishment, the choir has brought together people of different ages and backgrounds who share a love for Ukrainian music and traditions. The repertoire includes traditional folk songs, sacred music, and contemporary Ukrainian compositions, reflecting the richness and diversity of Ukraine’s musical heritage.
The choir initially worked under the leadership of choir director Uliana Burdina, whose dedication helped establish the choir and develop its artistic foundations. Since 2025, the choir has been led by Volodymyr Andrushchak, a Ukrainian opera singer and choral conductor. Under his artistic direction, the choir continues to grow, offering high-quality musical performances while strengthening the Ukrainian community in Finland.
Beyond rehearsals and concerts, the Perespiv Choir serves as an important cultural and social platform. It creates opportunities for Ukrainians in Finland to gather, support one another, and celebrate their shared heritage. At the same time, the choir introduces Finnish and international audiences to Ukrainian culture, fostering greater understanding and cultural exchange through music.
For many participants, singing together is more than a hobby—it is a source of hope, resilience, and belonging. Especially during challenging times for Ukraine, the choir helps preserve cultural traditions and maintain a living connection to home through the universal language of music.
